Introduction

When selecting a release agent for precast concrete, manufacturers should not focus solely on the dilution ratio. GP‑4 Water‑Based Concrete Release Agent adopts a practical 3–5× dilution ratio, balancing demolding performance, concrete surface quality, and production cost. It is suitable for the production of tunnel segments, wind turbine tower segments, bridge components, wall panels, square piles, and other precast concrete products, providing precast concrete manufacturers with a stable and reliable release solution.

GP‑4 is a general‑purpose water‑based concrete release agent suitable for a wide range of precast concrete applications, including tunnel segments, wind turbine tower segments, prestressed box girders, double‑T beams, partition wall panels, and solid square piles.

  • Based on extensive real‑world production applications, a 3–5× dilution with water is recommended for the above applications. This provides smooth demolding, stable concrete surface quality, and good overall application performance.

  • Some manufacturers in the industry blindly pursue 10× or 20× dilution ratios. However, dilution ratio is not the core indicator for evaluating the quality of a concrete release agent. The key factors should be the actual demolding performance, product batch‑to‑batch consistency, and reliable supply and delivery.

  • An excessively high dilution ratio can increase production risks. Insufficient active film‑forming materials may result in sticking, edge damage, or chipped corners. An uneven release film may also cause surface air voids and color variations, leading to additional repair, rework, and production delays.

2. Product Performance: An Alternative to Oil‑Based Concrete Release Agents

  • According to the GP‑4 MSDS, the product features a unique formulation and production process, with performance comparable to traditional oil‑based concrete release agents. It can be used as a direct alternative to oil‑based release agents.

  • When diluted 3–5× with water, GP‑4 helps maintain reliable demolding performance while effectively reducing the release agent cost per precast concrete component.

  • The product is not classified as dangerous goods, providing greater safety during storage, transportation, and on‑site application. Compared with oil‑based products, it also helps reduce oily residue and the risk of yellowing or blackening on concrete components.

3. Key Application Precautions

  • After dilution with water, phase separation may occur if the working solution is left unused for more than 24 hours. Stir thoroughly before reuse. We recommend using the diluted solution within the same day.

  • After spraying, it is recommended to use a mop to spread the release agent evenly. Avoid excessive application or accumulation of the release agent, as excessive residue may cause yellowing, blackening, and increased air voids on the concrete surface.

4. Troubleshooting Concrete Surface Quality Issues

  • Air voids and other surface defects in precast concrete can result from multiple factors, including the concrete mix design, admixtures such as water reducers, vibration processes, and operator practices. They are not necessarily caused by the release agent alone.

  • Defect Identification

  • If the same type of defect appears on every component produced with the same concrete mix, the release agent should be investigated first.

  • If defects occur randomly and only on individual components, other factors such as concrete raw materials, vibration, and mold cleaning should be investigated.

  • If problems occurred when using an oil‑based concrete release agent, check the type and quality of the oil used and eliminate potential issues associated with waste or recycled oil.

  • If problems occurred when using a water‑based concrete release agent, test and adjust the water dilution ratio, while also checking mold cleaning and application procedures.

Conclusion

When selecting a release agent for precast concrete, manufacturers should not focus solely on the dilution ratio. GP‑4 uses a practical 3–5× dilution ratio to balance demolding performance, concrete surface quality, and production cost. It is suitable for tunnel segments, wind turbine tower segments, bridge components, wall panels, square piles, and other precast concrete applications, providing a stable and reliable release solution for precast concrete manufacturers.
